For if you don’t, it will come to bite you in the ass. Trust me.
To by šlo.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Ding-dong, the Wintel witch is starting to slowly wither away.

No other company has inspired me more when it comes to marketing, design, focus, and even capitalism than Apple. Make the best damn product out there, charge a profitable price, and win the world.

U mě Applu v téhle „soutěži” zdatně konkurují právě 37signals.

Pro trochu perspektivy: Microsoft má čistý zisk za stejnou dobu $7,99 mld. a Google $2,71 mld. Apple má tedy zisk asi o pětinu větší, než tyto dvě firmy dohromady.
After strong gains in Europe and China, the Chinese vendors are now going to attack the US smartphone market in 2012. Squeezed between Apple and Samsung at one end, the Chinese low-cost vendors at the other, mid-tier vendors may be about to demolished. LG, HTC, Motorola, Sony – their bad 4Q11 performances are just a prelude to a devastating 2012. It would not be surprising if Google opts to wind down Motorola’s handset operations sometime over the next two years and Sony bails out entirely.
ZTE and Huawei demonstrated in the UK market last year just how little brand loyalty consumers have when they see a white label smartphone undercutting second-tier brands by 30-60%. We are likely to witness a US sequel to this phenomenon this year. Globally, the industry could well witness smartphone ASP erosion that is substantially faster than projected.

But now we have ideas that are more revolutionary than incremental. We think these ideas will dramatically enhance Basecamp’s speed, power, and flexibility.
The problem is that we cannot make these kinds of changes in the existing product. Over time, software builds up legacy. The old technology is baked in, and the roots of the product are so knotted that simply unwinding them becomes a massive undertaking.
…
We’ll have two versions of Basecamp—the Classic version and the new version. Users will be able to switch to the new Basecamp or stick with the Basecamp they are already comfortable with.
After a year of hard work, this is all set to happen soon.
Microsoft’s Q2 2012 earnings report is in, and the company announced a record revenue of $20.9 billion — a 5 percent increase from the same period last year. Despite slowing PC markets, Microsoft’s Business and Entertainment & Devices divisions appear to have helped the company’s sales this quarter. Strong Xbox and Kinect sales boosted that particular division by 15 percent from the prior period, bringing it close to the same revenue generated by the Windows division. Microsoft’s Server & Tools business posted $4.77 billion in revenue, an 11 percent increase from the prior year period. Overall, the company didn’t take quite as much money home this quarter, though: Operating income, net income, and diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $7.99 billion, $6.62 billion, and $0.78 per share, compared with $8.17 billion, $6.63 billion and $0.77 per share, respectively, in the same period last year.
The big news came from Microsoft’s Windows and Windows Live division, which posted revenue of $4.74 billion, a six percent decline from the prior period — drawing a line under the slow down of traditional PC sales.

Google has just announced its earnings for Q4 2011, reporting $10.58 billion in revenue — although that number doesn’t include traffic acquisition costs. When you factor those in, actual net revenue was $8.13 billion. That amount is the first time Google passed the $10 billion mark in a single quarter and represents a 25 percent increase year on year. For the full year, Google’s revenue is up 29 percent and the company is currently sitting on cash and cash-equivalent reserves of $44.6 billion. Digging deeper into the numbers, Google saw a 6 percent increase with net income of $2.71 billion. All Things D notes that the results were lower than Wall Street estimates.
